This year is a momentous one for the City of Newark as we mark its 350th anniversary with a year-long celebration of both its proud history and continuing progression as a world class city. With a somewhat shorter history, NRBP will mark its 147th year right alongside City celebrants. We hope you will join us in many of these activities during the year ahead.
Since its founding along the Passaic River, Newark has been a leader in making connections - the digging of the Morris Canal; the emergence of freight and commuter railroads; the establishment of the metropolitan area’s first commercial airport, the introduction of the nation’s first container seaport and today, availability of the fastest broadband service anywhere.
Similarly, NRBP has been a leader in connecting and informing its members while advocating for initiatives that help to revitalize the City and enhance the region’s economic competitiveness. Today, Newark is undergoing a revitalization that capitalizes on and expands its renowned presence as a transportation hub, cultural attraction, college town and business center with a dynamic downtown and strong and emerging neighborhoods. Newark is indeed a “happening” place with a diverse community committed to its continuing ascension as a world-class city.
Throughout 2016, NRBP will continue to offer its members dynamic programs with insight into projects and introductions to people who are inspiring technological innovation, business opportunities and new retail and residential development.
And, on birthdays, it’s only right to give a gift. Consistent with our commitment to the City and business heritage, NRBP has introduced the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), a thirty week, after school program during which twenty-plus middle and high school students will start their own businesses. Under the theme “Learn how to MAKE a job, not just take a job”, YEA! is designed to provide students with the inspiration and knowledge to become business owners and create wealth here in their own community.
Whether volunteering for YEA!, participating in NRBP’s forums and events or connecting with members, your active involvement in NRBP can reap rewards. Please review this guide and consider the ways we can work together to write a new chapter in Newark’s history and a record a successful year for your business.
