Who We Are

NRBP focuses on meeting the needs of members with interests in the Newark region. About half of NRBP’s members are Newark-based with the balance throughout the metropolitan area. Whether from Princeton or New York City, members are tied to business investments, advantages and opportunities in Greater Newark. More than 300 organizations are active members including corporations, professionals, small businesses, universities and not-for-profits. NRBP is a voice for member businesses, focusing on issues that impact economic growth and vitality in the Newark business community and the region.

A Brief History

​Connecting and advocating for members is deeply ingrained in NRBP’s history which dates back to its founding as the Newark Board of Trade in 1869. The organization has evolved with changing times and terminology as the Newark Chamber of Commerce (1922), Newark Association of Commerce & Industry (1959), Metro Newark Chamber of Commerce (1989), and Regional Business Partnership (1994) until restoring Newark to its name in 2006.

Renaissance Newark Foundation (RNF)

RNF is NRBP’s 501(c)(3) charitable affiliate that supports the organization’s economic development efforts through educational programs, research and activities that promote Newark’s revitalization. The foundation played a significant role in the early research for a Newark sports arena (Prudential Center); helped to lead the establishment of Greater Newark Convention and Visitors Bureau; supported the making and screening of several Newark focused documentaries (Revolution’67, The Rule, and RUST); and ran the Newark Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!), an intense, targeted after-school program for a group of Newark middle and high school students who start a real business.
